Amanda Brooks' huge designer donation

Fancy bagging some cut-price designer pieces fresh from the wardrobe of one of fashion's biggest hitters? Well you can if you happen to be in the Big Apple.

One of the city's most-loved thrift stores has received a designer haul from none other than Amanda Brooks, the former-fashion director and vice president at luxury store Barneys. New York City Opera's Thrift Shop is a treasure trove of designer finds, and all proceeds support the creation and design of costumes for productions at New York City Opera at Lincoln Center.

Page Six are reporting that Brooks, who's regularly snapped on the front row and by street style photographers, donated "thousands and thousands of dollars" worth of Prada, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Jil Sander, Yves Saint Laurent and Chanel designs, plus "loads of shoes" as she cleared out and packed up her belongings in preparation for a move to the UK. Evidently, Brooks made the most of her staff discount during her Barneys tenure.

Brooks resigned from her role back in March after announcing that she and her British artist husband Christopher wished to move to rural Oxfordshire and enjoy country life on a farm, where she'll clearly have no need for designer duds.

She also happens to be the sister-in-law of former News Internaional boss Rebekah Brooks, who is currently facing trial on charges of attempting to pervert the course of justice following her appearance at the on-going Leveson enquiry - as is her husband Charlie, whose brother Christopher Amanda is married to. Suggestions have been made that Amanda and her husband are in fact moving to provide support for Rebekah and Charlie and their young baby, who live in nearby Chipping Norton, through the forthcoming trying times.

As reported by The Daily Telegraph 's Tim Walker last week , Amanda insists that she will pursue her career writing about the fashion world, namley on her blog iloveyourstyle.com , from the Cotswolds. Presumably wearing a no-brand tracksuit and wellies, that is.
