Karl Lagerfeld's cat has two maids

When Karl Lagerfeld revealed he had a new Siamese kitten named Choupette back in January, the fashion world was aflutter with the realisation that the designer does in fact have a human heart, and that he too goes weak at the knees for a blue-eyed, white-fluffed feline.

But Choupette - who was given to Karl by his model muse Baptiste Giabiconi - is no normal kitten. Oh no, there's no tins of Whiskers and scratching poles for her. Instead she eats at the table with Karl, plays with an iPad, and she is, in Karl's words, a "kept woman".

"She has lunch and dinner with me on the table, with her own food. She doesn't touch my food. She doesn't want to eat on the floor. She sleeps under a pillow and she even knows how to use an iPad. She has two personal maids, for both night and day. She is beyond spoiled," he told WWD .

Lagerfeld even gets his maids to keep a diary of little Choupette's moods, movements and eating behaviour if he's not with her. "In the nine months, we already have almost 600 pages…I think it could be funny to make a little book of Choupette's diary."

Sadly, we won't be seeing Choupette trussed up in custom-made Chanel outfits anytime soon, as Karl thinks the act of humanising pets is "circuslike". We agree, eating at the table and keeping a diary are fine, but dressing up? That's just a whisker too far.
